FIR filed against ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ for showing actors drinking in a courtroom scene

The FIR has been filed in a district court of Madhya Pradesh against the makers over an episode in which the show’s cast was allegedly shown to be drinking alcohol while performing a courtroom scene.

Comedy is serious business – a saying that is usually used in a different context but often here in India, it turns out to be rather literal and ends up meaning trouble for some. We have seen ample instances of how actors, comedians and others have been embroiled in controversies owing to comments, skits and comic comments among other things.

That has what has happened yet again and this time it is for Kapil Sharma and the team of SHOWNAME. A case has been registered against The Kapil Sharma Show and channel Director MP Singh under the IT Act and Excise Act, according to advocate Suresh Dhakad.

The FIR has been filed in a district court of Madhya Pradesh against the makers over an episode in which the show’s cast was allegedly shown to be drinking alcohol while performing a courtroom scene. The complainant has accused the comedy show’s producers of disrespecting the court.

The matter is set to be heard on October 1.

According to reports, the lawyers told reporters that in the courtroom scene, the co-star comes onstage with a bottle of liquor and urges other people to taste it and the scene outrages the dignity of the court. The lawyer mentioned that the scene should have also featured a statutory warning, which it did not.

The said scene in the episode aired on January 19, 2020 and re-aired on April 24, 2021.

Sharma himself or anyone else is yet to make a comment or statement on the same. Keep reading this space for further updates.
