TV has become a content-based platform now : Meghan Jadhav

In conversation with ‘Mahakali‘ actor…

Meghan Jadhav, who plays the role of Kartikey in Siddharth Kumar Tewary’s Mahakaali – Anth Hi Aarambh Hai, says that he has been lucky enough to get a chance to be part of mytho dramas as well as ordinary shows.

The actor says that he has always tried to get the audience to relate to his characters. “I have been grateful to God for giving me the opportunity to be part of some the best mytho-historical shows. Be it playing Krishna in Jai Shri Krishna, Abhimanyu in Surya Putra Karn or currently Kartikey in Mahakaali, I certainly look at these roles in a more a challenging way. It’s also surprising that after a mythological show, I get to do a regular social daily soap. So as an actor, I certainly enjoy these variations in my acting career. And also, I’m always excited about every character that comes my way. I always aim to go into the depth of the character and make it look very lively. I always try to put realism in even these Godly characters so that the audience connects with it,” he says.

Besides acting, Meghan also feels that an actor bears the responsibility of inspiring the masses. “I feel an actor’s job is not just to act. An actor automatically becomes a public figure. People surely try to imitate them after watching them on the big or small screen. They are the ones who make the actors popular. They follow them on social networking sites. Hence, we have to be responsible for the actions we take. I feel an actor should influence the masses in the right way,” he says.

Ask him what is the best part of being an actor, and he says, “The best part of being an actor is to get to act. I grew up acting. And I love acting. The best part is to play a character other than yourself and do things that you don’t in your normal daily life. It’s very exciting to play different characters. It’s very exciting to do different things on screen! I love it!

Meghan says that his evolution as an actor has always been his prime concern. “I have always taken up roles that have taught me something. I tend to learn from every character that I play. I have never set any preferences that I want to do any particular role. I like roles that help me grow as an actor. But I certainly enjoy playing these mytho-historical roles because of my interest in history. Being a history graduate, it fascinates me! I’m open to playing all type of roles,” he says.

The actor is currently shooting in Umergaon, and says that it has become his second home. “I wouldn’t say I don’t miss my home in Mumbai, but I also feel at home at Umergaon. Having shot for Surya Putra Karn also here, I enjoy my stay here while working. All the cast and unit members have become like a family, so it’s fun shooting over here. Plus, we get weekends off mostly, so I do catch up on everything during the weekend in Mumbai,” he says.

Nowadays, TV shows are no longer regressive and pick up bolder content and Meghan says that this is a very important move in the industry. “I would like to look at it as a revolution in our TV industry. All the channels are producing such good shows. Be it fiction, non-fiction or mytho-historical shows. They are so greatly delivered and are a source to learn so much about our history and mythology. They are made on a scale which is as good as films. TV has become a content-based platform now and I’m happy that the audience is accepting this change,” he says.

In fact, he feels that the industry has grown too. “Speaking from my experience of over 12 years, I feel that industry has grown. Peoples’ negative perspective towards the industry has also changed. More and more new and young people are coming in with new ideas. Earlier a director would be a 40-50ish, but now we have directors who are as old as us! So, it’s fun working with young people. The industry is expanding, hence providing opportunities for new, young people. Technically it has grown so much,” he says.
