Mayuri Deshmukh opens up on what she feels about the stereotypes on television, Imlie being about women empowerment, and some more. Read what did she tell

Imlie features Sumbul Touqeer Khan, Gashmeer Mahajni, and Mayuri Deshmukh in the lead roles. Among so many television shows, this one also features two female leads and a single male actor, something that has been a very huge stereotype for a long time. However, the show has also managed to create waves with what it has been showing, thereby not making it regressive, or too over the top. Mayuri spoke to us about the same and as someone who stands for women empowerment, she is glad the way her character has shaped up and the story track.

About stereotypes, she says, ”These are the exact concerns for doing television because it is regressive sometimes and very few shows are progressive and I did not want to be a part of anything that is very regressive. When the team narrated the plot to me and when they told me how it will be presented. The journey that my character takes, once she knows about the truth, she doesn’t want to be second fiddle, she doesn’t want to take it lying down, and without any drama, just saying that if you love her, and you want to marry her, these are the small changes – where a woman is empowered.”

I am glad that makers have stuck to keeping it real and they’ve not turned it into an over-the-top drama. It is fiction, there will be unrealistic situations but giving us the ability to portray it realistically and then shooting it in a certain manner, is what is empowering this show.

She adds, ”Malini is an educated girl, so this female has a good educational background, keeping emotions apart, when it comes to making decisions, she does that as an empowered woman would take and that journey sets her apart. The kind of comments we are getting is how either she will be a suppressed woman or she will become a villain. I am glad that makers have stuck to keeping it real and they’ve not turned it into an over-the-top drama. It is fiction, there will be unrealistic situations but giving us the ability to portray it realistically and then shooting it in a certain manner, is what is empowering this show.”

Imlie has been in the top 3 for a really long time as far as the BARC ratings are concerned and continues to maintain a strong spot in the list.
