Several aspects of the show will remind you of ‘Sanjeevani’ and ‘Dill Mill Gayye’

Colors’ much-awaited ensemble cast show, ‘Savitri Devi College & Hospital‘ recently launched a couple of promos and the excitement levels have risen to infinity. The show has an array of actors being roped in for pivotal roles and even has a great setting as a hospital and medical college that boasts different personalities coming together with different purposes.

What is it about?

In Promo 1-

As the name suggests, ‘Savitri Devi College & Hospital’ is one of the most reputed institutions in India which is not only a hospital but also a medical college that presents medical marvels.

The promo begins with ‘Savitri Devi College & Hospital’ being the narrator talking about how different characters are attached to it.

This begins with Mrs. Jaya Mishra (Shilpa Shirodkar), who has vengeance on her mind as she is about to enter the hospital, and her target is Dr. Malhotra.

Needless to say, the next one in the frame is Dr. Anand Malhotra (Mohan Kapur) who is a narcissist and only credits himself for the success and position of the hospital.

Things mellow down as we are introduced to Dr. Sanchi Mishra (Swarda Thigale) who is a sweet and ambitious girl. She considers the hospital to be nothing less than a holy place.

In Promo 2-

Another encounter with the aerial shot of the hospital, we are introduced to another array of characters which begin with, Dr. Kabir (Vikram Sakhalkar), who is a strict and no-nonsense doctor. He believes that there should be no emotional connect with a patient and treatment should be the only priority.

And finally, things get fun and jovial as we are introduced to Dr. Veer Malhotra (Varun Kapoor) who plays pranks and lives life to the fullest.

What’s Good?
The vibe and flavor of the show seems really interesting and fresh. Though, there are some direct comparisons drawn from ‘Dill Mill Gayye’, the overall the look and feel with the element of mystery is what makes it a good watch.
The idea of mixing veterans, popular actors and debutants seems a winner. Presenting the perfect amalgamation of actors as an ensemble cast is an absolute treat.

It is amazing to witness Varun Kapoor in an avatar like never before. After playing the quintessential leading man in ‘Swaragini’, he appears in a refreshing character in this show.

What’s Not-So-Good?

The idea of a hospital narrating and introducing itself in promos by a voiceover is really odd and you feel perplexed by the unnecessary personification in the promos.

As mentioned above, there are some direct comparisons that can be drawn from ‘Sanjeevani’ and ‘Dill Mill Gayye’, where the idea of interns having parallel stories in a hospital takes you straight back to those shows. Be it a strict doctor, a prankster or a jovial doctor (Varun Kapoor and Karan Singh Grover aka Veer and Armaan), a sweet and docile damsel (Swarda Tigali and Gurdeep Kohli/Jennifer Winget aka Sanchi and Juhi/Ridhima); ‘Dill Mill Gayye’ and ‘Sanjeevani’ flashes cannot be ignored. Hopefully, the characters of Mohan Kapoor aka Anand and Shilpa Shirodkar aka Jaya will give the show an edge it needs.

The Verdict

‘Dill Mill Gayye’ references or not, ‘Savitri Devi College & Hospital’ appears to get a thumbs up courtesy the presentation and idea of having a hospital drama after such a long time. Having said that, if the viewers will compare it to the cult shows of the previous times, it will have the towering task of living up to that. Amalgamating raw talent with veterans is always a good move and this show is doing that. The show looks promising already and we cannot wait to watch it soon.
